Rice Caravans

A Brief Note by D.French.

A correspondent rang to say that he had just purchased a 1936 Rice Caravan in good condition right down to the original "spoked" wheels.

These were made in the old Gofa Mill, Gargrave, by a company owned by Cecil Rice.

Cecil was quite a character and had designed a caravan especially for Harry Ward, the Yorkshire Birdman, before going on to design and manufacture his "wings". Harry's story can be found on the web site under the heading of Times Past.

These caravans were designed as a trailer to be towed behind a car, and when required could be extended vertically to form a reasonably sized caravan as per the attached photographs.
